Education is our core key !
The objective of setting up the Canterbury Indian Tamil Association (CITA) operated Tamil School is to introduce, enhance and promote the use of the Tamil Language and shall be open to all within the CITA community members, the Tamil community in Canterbury, and the public at large.
The purpose is to keep alive the use of the Tamil language to the younger Tamil generation living in New Zealand, who may have no opportunity to learn it in their formal education environment. As Tamil is one of the oldest languages in the world, the continued learning and use of the language by the 1st, 2nd, and future generations of Tamils living in New Zealand will guarantee that the language is not lost within the community over time.

Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of children, including prevention of child abuse or maltreatment, is a paramount goal of The Canterbury Indian Tamil Association (CITA and the CITA Agaram tamil school). CITA has policy that provides guidance about how to identify and respond to concerns about the wellbeing of a child, including possible abuse or neglect.
In addition to guiding staff to make referrals of suspected child abuse and neglect to the statutory agencies – i.e., Ministry of Vulnerable Children (Oranga Tamariki) and the Police – the policy also help our staff identify and respond to the needs of the many vulnerable children whose wellbeing is of concern.
